The Deputy Chief Minister told the state assembly that this is the first plan of its kind by the Gujarat government to stop female feticide, promote girls ‘education and provide adequate funds for girls’ higher education and marriage.
Sociologist Gaurang Jani said the government was giving cash incentives for girls’ education, but giving a lake of one rupee for marriage at the age of 18 would encourage parents to marry their daughters instead. College education should be allowed.
